MOULVIBAZAR: Bangladesh Railway has formed two separate committees (Zonal and Divisional) to probe into the derailment of an inter-city train in Kulaura upazila that killed four passengers and injured 200 others.
Railway ministry secretary Mofazzel Hossain said this information after inspecting the accident spot at 9:30 am on Monday (June 24).
He told Banglanews that Md Mizanur Rahman, chief mechanical engineer of the railway eastern zone, will lead the four-member investigation committee.
In the second one, Mainul Islam, divisional transport officer of Dhaka division will be head of the five-member divisional probe committee.
Both the probe bodies have been asked to submit report within three working days.
Mia Jahan, Additional director general of Bangladesh Railway, told Banglanews that the committees will submit the reports within three working days by investigating the cause of the accident.
He said with the crane, the rescue work is going on to salvage derailed train compartments. Hopefully, train movement will be normal between Dhaka-Sylhet-Chittagong rail lines in the afternoon.
At least four people were killed and around 200 injured as an intercity train derailed at Baramchal in Kulaura upazila on Sunday (June 23) night.
SP Mohammad Shahjalal told Banglanews that five bogies of Dhaka-bound ‘Upaban Express’ train from Sylhet derailed around 11:45pm near Baramchal Railway Station.
One of the bogies fell into the canal while another overturned.
