DHAKA: Sonagazi Police Station former Officer-in-Charge (OC) Moazzem Hossain, who was arrested over leaking the deposition of slain madrasa girl Nusrat Jahan Rafi, has been handed over Sonagazi Police Station Monday (June 17).

He was handed over around 9:30am, said Shahbagh Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abul Hasan.

With help from Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), Moazzem will be produced before the court, said Sonagazi Police Station OC Moinuddin Ahmed.

Earlier, around 3:30pm Sunday (June 16), Shahbagh police arrested Moazzem from High Court area, in a case filed under Digital Security Act.

Dhaka Cyber Tribunal issued an arrest warrant against Moazzem on May 27.

After two days, he filed an appeal with the High Court seeking bail in advance.

Nusrat Jahan Rafi, a madrasa girl at Sonagazi Islamia Senior Fazil Madrasa, who was set on fire on April 6, succumbed to her burn injuries at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) on the night of April 10.

Chief of Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Banaj Kumar Majumder earlier said that all the accused involved in the incident of setting Nusrat on fire, in a bid to kill her, were arrested.

Moazzem Hossain was earlier suspended and withdrawn from Sonagazi Police Station and adjusted to Rangpur Range after he was proved neglecting duty in the incident of setting Nusrat afire.

On May 29, police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) has pressed charges against 16 people in the case filed over the murder.

21 accused, including 16 charge-sheeted, were produced before the court on May 30.
