DHAKA: The total expenditure of the upcoming fifth Upazila Parishad election was estimated at Taka 677 crore which is double that of the expenditure of the fourth.
The government will bear it.
“The 5th UP election is financed with Taka 677 allocation. Out of Taka 677, 225 will be spent on election management sector while the rest will be on law enforcement agencies,” Mohammad Enamul Haque, Senior Assistant Secretary of Election Commission budget branch, told Banglanews.
The schedule for the polls is set to be announced in February. However, voting will start in the 1st week of March. The 5th UP election will take place in five phases, said EC secretary Helaluddin Ahmed.
The 4th UP election held between February and May (in six phases) of 2014.
Under Upazila Parishad Election Act, it is obligatory to hold elections within six months before expiry of the tenure.
