Man accused in 10 cases killed in Munshiganj ‘shootout’

MUNSHIGANJ: A young man, who had arrested warrants in ten cases, was killed in a reported shootout with policemen in Sreenagar upazila of Munshiganj early Saturday (Nov 16). 

The deceased, Md Tajel, was a resident of Rudropara village under Baghra union of the upazila.

The shootout erupted in Baroikhali area of the upazila, around 1:10am.

Sreenagar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Yunus Ali told banglanews that Tajel was earlier arrested from Manirampur upazila of Jessore.

Afterwards, police launched a drive in search of arms and drugs in West Baroikhali area based on information from Tajel.

Terrorists opened fire at the policemen after the latter reached on the spot. The law enforcers fired back in retaliation.

At one stage, the terrorists managed to flee while Tajel was found lying on ground with bullet injuries. He was taken to the upazila health complex where the on-duty physician pronounced him dead.

Three policemen sustained injuries in the incident. They were admitted to Munshiganj General Hospital, added the OC.

A one-pipe gun, 3 rounds of bullet, 105 yaba pills and 3 daggers were recovered from the spot. 

Tajel was accused in 10 cases on various charges including arms, robbery, murder and drugs, the OC said further.
