Bangladesh’s child mortality rate curbs by 75pc: Dr Momen

DHAKA: Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen said various initiatives taken by the government helped decrease the child mortality rate by 75 percent in the country.

He disclosed the satisfactory information at a program organized at the office of Polli Shishu Foundation (PSF) in city’s Mirpur area Wednesday (April 17).

Dr AK Abdul Momen attended the 41st annual conference of PSF as chief guest while Dr MA Aziz MP was special guest.

The minister said rural development is the key reason for our country's development. At present, various initiatives taken by the government have reduced child mortality rate by 75 percent in the country. Maternal mortality rate has also decreased.

Amongst the least developed countries, Bangladesh has the lowest child mortality rate. With the government, about 14 thousand organizations are working for rural development of the country. Their contribution is undeniable, Dr Momen added.

The Foreign Minister also said, “My home district is Sylhet. Child and maternal mortality rates are high in Sylhet. Here the education rate is low. I hope that you (Palli Shishu Foundation) will work for the welfare of mother and child in the region. You will get our cooperation always to do so.”
