Two ships built to export to Germany

CHITTAGONG: Two more ships with 5,000 dead weight tonnes capacity are now ready for export to Germany.

Western Marine Shipyard, a local shipbuilding company, has built the “EMS Sea” and “EMS River” which can carry cargo and container, Managing director of Western Marine Md Sakhawat Hossain said.

“100 meter long EMS Sea and EMS River are the biggest vessels so far that any private company in the country has built. It is considered as a landmark for shipbuilding in Bangladesh,” Sakhawat added.  

Western Marine Shipyard has received orders from Germany, Denmark, Pakistan and the Middle Eastern countries, he informed.

The two ships were experimentally sailed in the river Karnaphuli from Western Marine Shipyard in Kolagaon area under Patia upazila of Chittagong on Wednesday.

Fleet manager of Grona Shipping, Germany Marku Vedder, Chairman of Western Marine Shipyard Saiful Ialam and Hens Ulrikh of East Winds were present on the occasion of sailing.
