Victorians Bull Bashing

BPL 2015: Match #8: Comilla Victorains Vs Barishal Bulls
Comilla Victorians 90/2 (Mahmudul Hasan 31, M  Samuels 23*) beat Barisal Bulls 89 All Out (Kevon Copper 22, Nuwan Kulasekara 3/8, Ashar Zaidi 3/16, Abu Hidar 2/21) by 8 wickets

Player of the Match: Nuwan Kulasekara

Barisal Bulls only in the last match earned great appreciation for its tight win against Sylhet Superstars getting out of jail from its paltry 108. Al-Amin performed a hat trick and grabbed 5 wickets. But after another diabolic batting collapse on Wednesday getting bundled out for only 89, Bulls were thrashed by Comilla Victorians by 8 wickets.

Batting first Bulls collapsed like Tsunami affected costal habitants. Victorians took it easy in crossing over the mark in the 18th over losing only two wickets. This win puts Mashrafe’s Comilla team to second place in team standing. There was no demon in the wicket excepting a bit sluggish nature. But bulls looked novice against pace and movement of Nuwan Kulasekara and left arm spin of Ashar Zaidi.

All night matches under light is turning out a big struggle for batsmen. Every match witnessed low score. Batsmen have so far failed to come to terms with the pace and movement of the wicket. But the way Barisal Bulls batted Wednesday had no excuse. It was poor substandard batting skills. Very poor foot work, wrong judgement in strokes play led to the inept batting. No team can expect miracle happening at every match. Barisal Bull management needs deep brain storming if they intend to stay in hunt in BPL 2015.

Batting first Bulls had to deal with accurate and penetrative Sri Lankan Kulasekara and local left arm pacer Abu Hidar. Shahriar Nafees, Brendan Taylor, Rony Talukdar and Mahmudullah perished in no time. At 4/36 Bulls could still make a comeback if they batted sensibly. But they had no clue in playing left arm spin of Zaidi. He picked up three quick wickets also soon making things look miserable for Bulls stuttering at 7/58. They soon got bundled out for 89, the lowest team score of BPL. Eight out of 11 batsmen failed to reach double figure.

Comilla under Mashrafe is now very intelligent. They did not hurry risking collapse. The marginal target took them to 18th over in getting across. Young Mahmudul Hasan who opened the innings in place of absent Liton has played a polished 31 while M Samuels remained unbeaten on 23. Scoring 90/2 Victorians won huge by 8 wickets. A win within 15 overs could earn bonus points but it was not worth taking risk keeping in mind what happed to Sylhet Superstars on the previous day. Al-Amin Hossain could not repeat his feat on the day.

Comilla is looking better after every match. Though batting is not very strong and deep yet Mashrafe is squeezing the best from everyone. The win elevated them to second place behind the leader of the pack Rangpur Riders.

Bulls have genuine concerns with their batting. Shahriar Nafees, Rony Talukdar, Sabbir have failed to deliver so far. They need more application, better judgement in stroke making. If batsmen cannot give dependable score to the bowlers they cannot strike magic. They must be looking forward to early arrival of master blaster Chris Gayle.
