Jurgensen appointed as Cricket Fiji coach

DHAKA: Cricket Fiji has appointed Australian Shane Jurgensen as their national coach.

The 38 year-old spent two and a half years as Bangladesh national coach before resigning last month.

Cricket Fiji's General Manager, Inoke Lesuma, says it is a remarkable coup to have someone of Jurgensen's experience joining the organisation.

He says to appoint someone from a test-playing national to a country that is not currently a part of the World Cricket League is unheard of.

Jurgensen has signed a 3-year contract to coach both the Fiji's Men's and Women's national sides, as well as Fiji's age-grade teams.

The position was funded by the Fiji National Sports Commission initiative that also led to the appointments of Ben Ryan and John McKee with Fiji Rugby and Julie Hoornweg with Fiji Netball.
