T20I: Tigers eye whitewash against England

Bangladesh are eager to complete the historic whitewash by beating the T20 World champion England in the third and final match of the T20I series today (March 14).

The match is scheduled to start at 03:00pm (BST) at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur of Dhaka and will be telecast live on TSports.

Bangladesh have already won two matches of the T20I series to clinch their maiden series win over England and a third win in a row will be an icing on the cake for them.

While the victory in the first match was dominating one, Bangladesh struggled badly to win the second game on the back of showing their character and it is something team management is looking for in a bid to build up a team for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 in West Indies and the United States.

“We won the series by 2-0 margin but more than that what is more satisfying is the fact that we played the T20Is like the way we want to,” BCB selection committee member Habibul Bashar told the media on Monday.

“Certainly we will play the third game with the motive to win but we have to carry on with the process like the way we did in the opening two games because certainly if we can win it will be great for us as we are beating the world champions,” he said.

“I am happy with the way the T20Is team is responding,” he added.

Mehidy Hasan Miraz’s thrilling introduction in Dhaka gave the winning line-up an extra cutting edge with the ball and the bat too and assuming the pitch offers similar assistance to the spinners, there’s no reason to change this winning XI.

Bangladesh achieved a clean sweep in an T20I series of three or more matches just once in their history against Ireland in 2012. They previously won three or more matches in a T20I rubber on two other occasions in beating Australia 4-1 and New Zealand 3-2 in 2021-22. Across formats, England have lost their last three matches against Bangladesh -- their worst run on records.
