A union parishad member was gunned down by unidentified miscreants at the office of Upazila Nirbahi Officer in Baghaichhari Upazila of Rangamati on Wednesday noon.

The deceased was identified as Bijoy Chakma, 40, was a member of ward No-1 of Rupkar union of the upazila.

Baghaichhari police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Anwar said a group of miscreants entered into the office of UNO and shot the member at 12:45pm.

On information, law enforcers rushed to spot but the assailants managed to flee the scene by several motorcycles, the OC added.
