BNP to sue former CECs, election officials Sunday

The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) is set to file a case on Sunday (June 22) against former Chief Election Commissioners (CECs) and other election commissioners for alleged irregularities during past national elections.

Shairul Kabir Khan, a member of the party’s media cell confirmed the matter today (June 21).

He said that a three-member BNP delegation will first visit the Election Commission with a copy of the case application.

They will then proceed to Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station around 10:45 AM to formally submit the application, he added.

The delegation will be led by Salahuddin Ahmed, a member of BNP’s central committee.

The move comes after the interim government reportedly decided to investigate allegations of electoral misconduct under election commissions formed during the Awami League’s rule.

The 10th parliamentary election in 2014 was held under the commission led by CEC Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmad, the 11th election in 2018 under CEC KM Nurul Huda, and the 12th election in 2024 under CEC Kazi Habibul Awal.
