A Dhaka court on Tuesday sent Shahe Alam Murad, former general secretary of Dhaka South Awami League, to jail in connection with the murder of trader Abdul Wadud during last July's mass uprising.
Metropolitan Magistrate Md Sefatullah issued the order after police produced Murad in court following a five-day remand and sought his detention until the probe concludes.
Earlier, on May 26, another court granted a five-day remand for Murad. He was initially arrested by the Detective Branch from Uttara on April 17 and was also remanded in the Dhanmondi Riaj murder case.
According to case documents, Wadud was shot dead on July 19, 2023, in Nilkhet under New Market Police Station. The case was filed by Wadud’s brother-in-law Abdur Rob against 130 people, including AL President Sheikh Hasina and General Secretary Obaidul Quader.
