BNP leader Ishraque Hossain has declared himself the “people’s mayor” and pledged swift action for waste management ahead of Eid-ul-Azha.
He made the statement today, a day after the High Court dismissed a writ seeking to block his oath as mayor of Dhaka South City Corporation, clearing the way for him to officially assume office.
In a Facebook post on Friday, Ishraque wrote, “The oath is merely a formality. As the people’s mayor, it is my responsibility to ensure preparations for waste management before Eid-ul-Azha.”
He also said he would support Dhaka North City Corporation’s efforts and announced a zone-based monitoring team for the South, vowing visible improvements within 16 hours and his own presence on the ground.
