DHAKA: Indictment hearing in a graft case against former state minister for home affairs Lutfozzaman Babar will be held on September 12, as a Dhaka court Monday set the date.

Special Judge Nasiruddin Mahmud of the special court No-5 of Dhaka set the date, when the maverick former minister will stand in the dock.

His counsel sought time for the charge-framing hearing. Lawyer Khorshed Alam told banglanews24.com.bd that a High Court bench of Justice Shamsul Huda and Justice Abu Bakar Siddique on June 7 ordered three months’ stay on the case.

National Board of Revenue (NBR) deputy tax commissioner Syed Zakir Hossain filed the case in the Metropolitan Senior Special Judge’s court on February 14 last year accusing Babar of tax dodging.

After hearing the case, Metropolitan Senior Special Judge ANM Bashir Ullah had issued warrant of arrest against Babar.

It was stated in the case that Babar as a director of his Master Electronics Limited hid information of wealth worth over Tk 8.06 crore and did not pay tax amounting to Tk 2.65 crore.
