New Cabinet likely to form by 15 January: Nasrul Hamid

The ruling Awami League (AL) and its alliance partners are likely to form the new Cabinet by 15 January, after registering a landslide victory in the 12th general election on Sunday.

State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid predicted the time frame.

Nasrul Hamid came up with the prediction while talking to the reporters at the Secretariat on Monday (January 8).

When asked about the timeframe for forming the new Cabinet, Nasrul Hamid said, “I believe it will be completed by 15 January.”

The Awami League (AL) secured a landslide victory in the 12th national election on Sunday, paving the way for the party to form the government for the fourth consecutive term.

The unofficial results showed the Awami League won 223 seats. The Jatiya Party secured 11 seats while the independents got 61.

The Awami League, some of its like-minded parties, the opposition in parliament Jatiya Party, and a record number of independent candidates contested the elections. The main opposition BNP and its allies boycotted the polls.
