Rizvi leads BNP's 'stick procession' in Dhaka

The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and its affiliates brought out a stick procession in the capital today (January 5) led by the party's Senior Joint Secretary General Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi.

They organized marched in the capital's Karwan Bazar area in the morning calling on the people to boycott the 12th parliamentary election, scheduled to be held on January 7.

Rizvi called on the countrymen to boycott the elections.

Earlier in the day, BNP announced countrywide processions and mass contact campaigns for Friday.

The party also announced a 48-hour hartal from Saturday morning in protest of the 12th Jatiya Sangsad polls.

BNP urged voters on December 20, to boycott the general election, reiterating demands for Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to step down or else risk what it called a "one-sided dummy election".

BNP, Jamaat and like-minded parties have so far observed blockades in the 12th phase to mount pressure on the Awami League government to quit power and hold the next election under a non-partisan administration.
