BNP’s Nayapaltan office still locked

Bangladesh Nationalist Party’s (BNP) central office at Nayapaltan in the capital remained locked since October 28 after a series of clashes between the police and opposition activists.

The office was seen locked on Thursday (November 16), after visiting the BNP’s Nayapaltan central office in Dhaka city.

Besides, the presence of law enforcement agencies was noticed besides the BNP’s Nayapaltan central office.

A large number of policemen were seen at Nightingale Junction on the way to the BNP office from Kakrail.

Earlier, police withdrew barricades from BNP’s central office around 11:00pm on Monday (November 13).

On the same day, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Habibur Rahman claimed that BNP themselves locked their central office in Nayapaltan although there have been no restrictions on them entering the office.

If BNP comes to reopen their Nayapaltan office we wouldn't bar them from doing that, he added.

On October 28, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir suspended the grand rally in the capital's Nayapaltan and announced the hartal.

BNP claimed that the rally was suspended as police fired rubber bullets, flash grenades and lobbed tear gas shells, forcing the BNP leaders and activists to leave the rally venue.

On October 29, Police cordoned off BNP's office in Nayapaltan with yellow tape, treating it as a crime scene.
