Hartal marked in 8-upazila, 3-dist

DHAKA: The hartal called by BNP-led 18-party alliance, in Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar, five upazilas of Sylhet, two upazilas of Jhenidah, one upazila of Laxmipur and Dinajpur districts on Sunday observed amid stray incidents.

Banglanews Chittagong bureau reports: The hartal observed amid cocktails blast, vandalism, possession chase and counter chase between the picketers and law enforcers in the port city.

Police, however, nabbed three pickets from the spot.

Our Sylhet Correspondent reports: In the second day of 72-hour blockade, a daylong hartal observed in five upazilas of the district.

The upazilas are Companiganj, Gowainghat, Jaintiapur, South Surma and Gopalganj.

The vehicles movement was hardly seen in these areas.

However, there was no violence in the area regarding this issue.

Banglanews Dinajpur Correspondent reports: The Daylong hartal observed in Dinajpur as well on Sunday.

The vehicles movement was halted and the shops remained closed in jail road area of the district town in the morning.

A possession was brought out led by district BNP president Lutfar Rahman Mintu at around 7:00am and set fire on roads.

In LAXMIPUR, the daylong hartal, called by Ramganj upazila unit Juba Dal observed in the upazila.

The alliance enforced the shutdown protesting the killing of a Juba Dal leader M Munir Hossain.

Earlier on Friday, miscreants kidnapped Munir Hossain, 35, and then killed him brutally.

In Cox’s Bazar, the dawn-to-dusk hartal, called by BNP observed in the district peacefully.

In Jhenaidah, the dawn-to-dusk shutdown, called by BNP-led 18-party alliance, observed in Kotchandpur and Moheshpur upazilas amid stray incidents of picketing.
