Won't contest election under AL govt, BNP tells EU

Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) today (Mar 12) said they would not take part in any election under the incumbent government.

BNP standing committee member Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury said it to the journalist after a meeting between a party delegation and EU diplomats on Saturday morning,

It is clear that BNP would not go for any election under the incumbent government, said Amir Khosru Mahmud. 

The matter has been made clear to all who are closely monitoring the situation in Bangladesh, he added. 

Earlier in the day, a delegation of BNP led by BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir held a meeting with the diplomates of eight European Union countries in Bangladesh.

The meeting started at the residence of Charles Whiteley, ambassador and head of delegation of the European Union to Bangladesh around 10 am at Gulshan-2 in the capital. 

BNP Organizing Secretary Shama Obaid and human rights affairs secretary Advocate Asaduzzaman Asad were also present at the meeting. 

Diplomates of European Union countries including France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Spain, Denmark and Norway attended the meeting.
