84-hr hartal continues for day-3

DHAKA: The 84-hour nonstop hartal, called by BNP-led 18-party alliance is underway across the country on Tuesday for third consecutive day amid stray incidents of violence.

The opposition alliance is enforcing the shutdown on demand of poll-time non-party caretaker government and in protest against the detention of central BNP leaders.
    
Besides, law enforcers were kept on alert to face any untoward situation.

Hartal supporters set fire in a passenger bus of Suprovat Paribahan in capital’s Madya Badda at around 7:00am.

Sensing the presence of police miscreants fled the scene.

Vatara police station Officer-in-Charge confirmed the matter to banglanews.

In Jatrabari, activists of Chhatra Shibir, the student wing of Jamaat, brought out a sudden procession Bibir Bagicha area at around 7:00am.

They exploded eight cocktails and set on fire at five vehicles.

2nd day’s hartal violence

On the second day of shutdown, hartal supporters torched and vandalized vehicles, blasted cocktails in most of the divisional cities and districts including capital Dhaka.

Pickets blasted cocktails at Shahbagh, Bijoynagar, Hatirjheel, Shahjadpur, Fakirapool, Mahakhali and different areas of the capital.


First day’s hartal violence

A man was killed and 40 others were injured in separate hartal violence in several districts of the country on Sunday.

Besides, law enforcers detained 28 people including office secretary of Narayanganj city BNP, general secretary of Munshiganj city Chhatra Dal and general secretary of Brahmanbaria district unit BNP from different parts of the country.

Police, however, seized 156 fresh hand grenades in Kanthalbagan area of the city on Sunday night.

At least 30 cocktails were hurled towards the police forces in Paltan, Karwan Bazar, Kalabagan and Nabisco Intersection of the city.
