Suspended gateman sued over Mirsharai train accident 

A case has been filed against Saddam Hossain, a Bangladesh Railway (BR) gateman, in a case filed over his negligence that resulted in the deaths of 11 people as a train rammed into a microbus in Chattogram's Mirsharai on Friday.

Chattogram Railway Police Assistant Inspector Zahirul Islam filed the case on Saturday (July 30) on the charge of negligence. 

Earlier on Friday (July 29) evening, Saddam Hossain was arrested by the police from Baratokia area. Meanwhile, Saddam Hossain has been suspended by the Railways.

On Friday at 1.30 pm, the Mahanagar Prabhati Express from Dhaka to Chattogram rammed a microbus carrying tourists and took it a kilometer away. Eleven people died on the spot and six others were injured.

The victims were residents of East Khandkia village of Amanbazar in Hathazari Upazila of Chattogram. The deceased, excluding the driver, are teachers and students of a local coaching center. They went on a trip to Mirsharai's Khaiyachhara Jharna by the microbus.

Eyewitnesses and train passengers alleged that there was no signal or barrier as there was no gateman at the site of the accident.
