Malcolm and Halima of Khulna face financial straits

18 years ago artist Malcolm Arnold (74) came to Khulna from Australia and tied knot with Halima happily, now the couple is in financial crisis.

Malcolm is also an artist suffering from Heart disease, diabetes and other several health issues.

Halima said to Banglanews24, We got married on February 8, 2004. Since then he has been in Bangladesh for me.

According to Halima, Malcolm is an artist. He paints. This is his job. However, due to various physical complications including heart disease and diabetes, he now cannot work. And no one buys his unsold paintings. All in all, I have been in a lot of trouble since Covid-19.

"We are unable to pay rent of our house," Halima said adding, Malcolm needs medicine worth 7-8 thousand Taka every month. The doctor said to give him six meals a day, with eggs and fruit. But due to financial crisis, I can't feed him properly.

Asking for help from the Bangladesh government, Halima said Malcolm is an Australian citizen. He has no property there. He is very ill. I went to the Australian Embassy. They advised me to do business by taking a loan.

Malcolm Arnold said to Banglanews24 that, his wife Halima is now everything to him. She is looking after me in every way. My physical problems are numerous. Walking and sitting down is difficult for me. I live a sick and inhuman life.

Halima lives with her husband Arnold on Road No. 6 in Sonadanga No. 1 Residential.
