Narayanganj trawler capsize death toll now 9

Three more bodies were recovered today, raising the death toll to nine as a trawler had capsized four days ago in the Dhaleshwari River.

The three deceased were identified as Tamim, 8, Abdullah, 24 and Shamsuddin, 62, reports Banglanews Narayanganj correspondent.

Earlier on Sunday, six bodies, including of a mother and her daughter, were recovered.

They were identified as Jasmine Akter, 35 wife of Sohail Miah of Fatullah and her daughter Tasmin Akhter, 16, Sabbir Ahmed (18), son of Raju Sardar of Fatullah, Josna Begum, 33, daughter of Abdul Jalil, Abdul Motaleb, 42, son of Rekmat Ali and Awlad Hossain, 30, son of late Akkas Ali.

The trawler capsized after it was hit by a launch on the Dhaleshwari River in Narayanganj on Wednesday. Eight persons went missing following the incident.

The trawler was ferrying more than 100 people when a Dhaka-bound passenger launch, MV Farhan 6, hit the vessel near the Dharmaganj jetty in Fatulla as dense fog reduced visibility.

MV Farhan 6, which is owned by Jatiya Party MP Golam Kibria Tipu for the Barishal 3 (Muladi-Babuganj) constituency, operates on the Dhaka-Betua river route.

Following the incident, police seized the launch from a dockyard in Keraniganj and arrested three people.

The arrestees have been identified as launch master Kamrul Hasan, 40, in-charge driver Jashim Uddin Bhuiyan, 40, and Md Jashim Molla, 30.BDST:
