Suspended Gazipur mayor Zahangir sued under DSA

A case was filed against suspended Gazipur City Corporation Mayor Mohammad Zahangir Alam under the Digital Security Act over his derogatory remarks on Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and martyred freedom fighters.

A lawyer named Omar Farooq Asif filed the case with court of Dhaka Cyber Tribunal judge Assam Jaglul Hossain on Sunday.

Omar Farooq Asif is a member of the Awami League's information and research subcommittee and former joint secretary of the Dhaka Bar Association.

The government suspended Zahangir from the mayoral post on November 25.

On November 19, the ruling Awami League expelled Jahangir, who was elected mayor in 2018 with the party’s ticket, for his remarks on Bangabandhu and the 1971 Liberation War martyrs at a programme. The video of the programme where he made such remarks went viral.
