DMP arrests 59 in anti-narcotics drive

The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has arrested 59 people on charges of selling and consuming drugs during anti-drug operations in different areas of the capital city over the past 24 hours.

Detectives and the law enforcers jointly made the arrest and seized illegal drugs from their possession.

The DMP seized 473 grams and 98 puria (small packet) of heroin, 50.975 kilograms of cannabis, 50 bottles of scuff (a new drug), two bottles of local liquor and 1,424 pieces of contraband yaba tablets from them.

DMP's Additional Deputy Commissioner (Media and Public Relations) Iftekhairul Islam has confirmed the news on Saturday.

Based on information, members of Detectives and Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) conducted a 24-hour long raid and detained the drug trades from various places, said the DMP sources, he said.

A total of 42 cases have been filed against the detained persons under the Narcotics Control Act, the DMP official added.
