At least 30 shanties were gutted in a fire at a slum in Tongi area of Gazipur early Saturday.

The fire broke out around 3.00am at a churi factory in Milgate area and soon engulfed the adjacent slum, burning down hundreds of shanties.

Senior station officer of Tongi Fire Service Iqbal Hossain confirmed the matter on Saturday morning.

Being informed, eight firefighting units rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control, he added.
