A court on Thursday sentenced five persons to death for kidnapping and gang-raping a woman in Bhuapur upazila of Tangail.

Judge Khaleda Yasmin of Tangail Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal issued the verdict this morning. 

The court also fined the convicts Tk 1 lakh each.

Tangail court inspector Tanvir Ahmed told Banglanews that a woman was abducted and gang-raped in Bhuapur in January of 2012. 

Two convicts -- Sanjit and Gopi Chandra Shil -- were present during pronouncement of the verdict while the three others were released on bail and went into hiding, he added.
