Hefazat chief Shah Ahmed Shafi passes away Shah Ahmed Shafi

Shah Ahmed Shafi, Amir of Hefazat-e-Islam, has passed away. He was 105.

He breathed his last around 6:30pm on Friday while undergoing treatment at Asgar Ali Hospital in Dhaka.

Hefazat-e-Islam Dhaka Metropolitan Joint-Secretary General Maulana Fazlul Karim Kashemi confirmed the matter to Banglanews.

Shafi was admitted to Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH) on Thursday night. He was transferred to the ICU of the hospital on Friday morning. 

Later on Friday afternoon he was airlifted to Dhaka as his condition deteriorated.

Shafi had been suffering from various diseases due to his old age, including diabetes and high blood pressure. 

Earlier on Thursday, the Hefazat-e Islam chief stepped down from his post as director general of Al Jamiatul Ahlia Darul Uloom Moinul Islam, popularly known as the Hathazari Baro Madrasa, in Chattogram in the wake of student protest.
