JHENIDAH: An elderly man was run over by a truck on the Jhenidah-Magura highway near Hatgopalpur Bazar in the district Tuesday, triggering a violent protest.

The deceased was identified as Bishnupada, 60, of Alamdanga under Chuadanga district.

Police sources said Bishnupada was trying to cross the road when a Jhenidah-bound truck from Magura knocked him down at around 1:00pm. He died instantly.

Agitated locals blocked the highway for an hour following the accident. The protestors demanded construction of speed-breaker at the spot.

The mob vandalized at least eight buses on the road.
