DHAKA: A two-member High Court bench felt ‘embarrassed’ to hear bail petition of eminent photographer Dr Shahidul Alam in a case filed under Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Act.
“The bench of Justice Md Ruhul Quddus and Justice Khandaker Diliruzzaman felt embarrassed. Now this petition, as per rule, will go to Chief Justice. He (CJ) will send it to another bench for hearing,” said Shahdin Malik, Shahidul Alam’s lawyer on Tuesday (September 4).
Shahdin Malik, and barrister Sara Hossain stood for Alam while Attorney General Mahbubey Alam stood for the state.
Dr Shahidul Alam, Drik Gallery owner, was picked up from his Dhanmondi residence Sunday night (August 5).
Police filed the case against Shahidul Alam for spreading propaganda and false information on Facebook and electronic media against the government.
Rehnuma, wife of Shahidul Alam, said her husband gave an interview to international media about on-going students’ movement. Besides, he came live on Facebook about the issue for a number of times.
