DHAKA: Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) said nine members of newly formed 'Bangladesh Jihadi Group’ were planning to collect fund for the militant outfit.
Law enforcers arrested them from city’s Banasree and Sutrapur areas. Among the arrestees, six were held from the garage of a house in city’s Banasree area at 3:00pm Sunday.
Later in the day, three more people were arrested from Lalmohan Das Lane of city’s Sutrapur area at 7:00pm.
The arrestees have been identified as Qazi Iftikhar Khalid alias Khalid, Fahad bin Nurullah alias Kashemi, Kayes, M Rahat, Deen Islam, Ariful Karim Chowdhury alias Adnan, M Nurul Islam, Maulana Nurullah Kashemi M Delwar Hossain and Mohammad Yasin Arafat.
In separate drives, Police also recovered five kilograms explosives, huge bombs making materials, eight bombs, six chocolate bombs, four machetes, a good number of books with radical ideology and a proposed flag of the organization from the arrestees.
The information was revealed in a press conference at DMP media center in city on Monday noon.
At the press conference, joint commissioner (Crime) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) (Media and Public Relations) Krishna Pada Ray said on the basis of secret information, police in the operation arrested six militants from Banasree of Rampura area.
According to the information given by them, three more were arrested from Sutrapur.
They were planning of bank robbery in Dhaka and in northern region of the country aiming to collect money for "Bangladesh Jihadi Group’, a new militant outfit.
Following their information, the others will be identified and arrested, he added.
Police has filed four cases against them under explosives and terrorism acts with Khilgaon and Sutrapur thanas, he said.
