Trafficker killed, 2 cops hurt

COX’S BAZAR: A human trafficker was killed and two policemen sustained bullet injuries during a gunfight in Sonarpara area under Ukhia upazila of the district early Sunday.

The deceased was identified as Farid Majhi, 40, while details of the injured could not be known.

Assistant superintendent of police (ASP) Jasim Uddin of Ukhia circle confirmed the matter to banglanews.
 
Jasim told banglanews that tipped-off, police raided in the area where traffickers were gathering the fortune-seekers.

Sensing lawpersons’ presence, they opened fire. Police retaliated with gunshots in self-defense that left Farid and two cops bullet-hit.

Farid succumbed to his injuries on way to hospital while the injured policemen are undergoing treatment at a hospital in the district.

Police also recovered a Lightning Gun (LG) and two rounds of bullets from the spot.

Farid was accused in several cases related to trafficking, Jasim told.

Earlier, three human traffickers were killed and three cops sustained bullet injuries during a gunfight in Teknaf upazila of the district on May 7.
