DHAKA: Eight people were killed as nor’westers hit different places of six districts in the country sometimes between Tuesday night and early Wednesday.
The districts are Habiganj, Jamalpur, Kisoreganj, Sherpur, Dinajpur, and Gaibandha.
The deceased were identified as Nurjahan Begum, 22, who was 8-month pregnant, and her four-year-old son Rabin Mia of Badauri village of Baniachang Upazila of Habiganj district, Nijhum, 16, of Pakhimara of Bakshiganj of Jamalpur, Ramjan Ali alias Lal Mian, 40, of East Timirpur of Nabiganj Sadar of Habiganj, Bablu Mian, 9, son of Harun Mian of Bhattacharyapara of Kisoreganj district town, Haydar Ali, 55, Tarakandi of Nalitabari of Sherpur, Nurjahan, 32, of Sahedpara of Parbatipur of Dinajpur, and Nabab Ali Mandal, 60, of Ganga Narayanpur of Sadullyapur upazila of Gaibandha.
Banglanews Habiganj correspondent reports: A pregnant woman and her son died on the spot when a tree collapsed on their house at Badauri village under Baniachang Upazila early Wednesday.
The deceased were identified as Nurjahan Begum, 22, who was 8 months pregnant and her four-year-old son Rabin Mia.
Local sources said the mother and son died when a tree collapsed on their tin-shed house during the nor’wester that hit the upazila around 1:30am.
Baniachang Police Station OC Nirmolendu Chakrabarti told banglanews that on information, a team of police visited the spot.
On the other hand, Ramjan Ali alias Lal Mian died when a tree collapsed on his house in Nabiganj municipality during the nor’wester around 1:30am.
In Kishoreganj, a school boy died as a tree collapsed on their house of the district town early Wednesday.
Sherpur correspondent reports: An agro-laborer died after a tree fell down on a house at Rarakandi village under Nalitabari Upazila of the district around 1:30am.
Besides, a teenage girl died in Jamalpur while a woman in Dinajpur and an elderly man in Gaibandha died as trees collapsed on their houses during nor’westers.
