RAJSHAHI: The probe team, headed by captain HM Akter Khan, has completed their preliminary investigation over training aircraft crash at Shah Makhdum Airport that killed a female trainee pilot.

After collecting several data, evidences and visiting the accident spot, the head of the probe committee returned Dhaka on Friday noon. The team will submit final report on Sunday after scrutinizing all evidences and data.

HM Akter Khan, also civil aviation’s senior flight operation inspector, told banglanews that the four-member committee visited the spot two times on April 1 and 2 and collected several evidences. Besides, they recorded interviews of on-duty officers, employees and witnesses.

Replying to a query, he said it was not clear whether the training aircraft has any mechanical fault. More investigation needed to clear the matter. The plane made crash land at the airport immediately after taking off. 

Three other members include Dr Abdul Khaleque, Lutful kabir and Ataullah Hashmi. Of them, Akter Khan is also the president of Bangladesh Aircraft Accident Investigation Team.

After discussion with team members and examining the data, clues; the final investigation report will be submitted to Civil Aviation Authority chairman on Sunday, said Akter Khan.

Earlier on Wednesday, the training plane, Sesna-152, made a crash landing at the airport at noon as its engine caught fire, leaving pilot Tamanna Rahman dead on the spot and her trainer Shahed Kamal sustained more than 60 percent burn injuries.

Shahed Kamal was taken to Rajshahi Medical College from and later he was shifted to Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Rajshahi.

Later, Shahed was sent to Combined Military Hospital in Dhaka by a special helicopter for better treatment.
