DHAKA: North Korean Diplomat Son Yung Nam has left Dhaka on Sunday during his given 72-hour ultimatum over gold seizure at Shahjalal International Airport.
Reliable sources confirmed the matter to banglanews Monday.
On March 5, customs officials seized gold worth around $1.7m (£1.1m) from the hand luggage of Son Yung Nam.
Son Young-nam, first secretary at the North Korean embassy in Dhaka, landed in the city on a flight from Singapore. His baggage was searched and almost 27kg (59lb) of gold bars and ornaments were recovered at the airport.
The gold was confiscated and the diplomat was released on bond under the Vienna Convention.
Foreign Ministry asked him to left Bangladesh within 72 hours and Korean Embassy has been asked to inform what action has been taken against him in Korea.
