Beware of Malaysian academic traders in Dhaka

DHAKA: A fair styled as ‘Education Fair’ is going on in the Bangladesh capital with pomp and grandeur to prey the Bangladeshi innocent students.

A so-called consultancy firm named Malaysian University Application Center (MUAC) has organized the fair with eight educational institutions only to cheat with students.

The fair has been organized by the hundreds of name sake institutions in Malaysia who have come to catch Bangladeshi catches. The fair will continue two more days.

About half a decade ago such education business was in vogue in London, now shifted to Malaysia.

In earlier days Bangladeshi students, being attracted, used to go to England both for education and job. But, after some days they had to return empty handed being a pauper.

In similar way in Malaysia, hundreds of colleges and universities have cropped up to earn money growing like mushrooms.

Sitan, a representative of mid level private university Mahsa has come here to collect students through the four-day fair, being held at two points of the capital.

Robin D H Quak has come from UCSI University. Representatives of Segi College have also joined the fair to catch students.

Nur Adela Diniati, assistant manager of a low graded University of Kuala Lumpur is also here for the same purpose.

Sitabalan Krishan of Manipalb business development manager of International University, Dailan Aung of Suinbarani University of Technology and Arican College and KDU university representatives have also joined the fair to catch Bangladeshi students to exploit those students in the name of education.

The low grade institutions representatives have come here to catch their haunts in exchange of commission.

It is learnt from the students, reading in the best universities of Malaysia namely University Malaya, International University of Malaysia and University Kebasang, that these low graded businesses oriented Universities have made the Bangladeshis and Nepalese their targets. The organizer and the agents collect students in exchange of commission.

On March 7 and March 8, these fraud university representatives have laid traps in the name of ‘Edu Expo-15’ arranged the fair at Spectra Convention hall in Gulshan-1. The deception drama will also continue for March 9 and March 10 at MUAC office in Uttara, sector-4.

After on the spot visit on Sunday at Spectra Convention, it was seen that the Expo has been organized at King’s hall. The intenders are told about scholarships, but after going to Malaysia.

Sitan of Mahsa University informed that initially Taka 50 thousand shall have to be deposited first for admission and visa purpose and after arrival there he will personally arrange his part time employment.

I have seen that many students, being allured by the agents, are getting admitted with passports and with the photocopies of certificates.

D. AH Quat of UCSI told that Bangladeshi students have additional attraction for Malaysia because there is scope of job alongside education. We are getting good response.

Diniati of University Kuala Lumpur told that there is dearth of work in Bangladesh while it is available in Malaysia.

However the real situation in Malaysia for the students of education along with part time job is quite different. In reality the Bangladeshi students have to work avoiding the police surveillance. The income is not more than 15 to 20 thousand taka per month.

One Rahul, reading at Segi College, told Banglanews that the earnings of six months were spent for semester fees. So it is hard to live on and absurd to help the family by part time job earnings.

Again if semester fee is not paid then the visa is not renewed bringing an end to education career.

Another Bangladeshi student, reading at UCSI, told Banglanews from Malaysia DAH Quat is a sweet deceiver. At his allurement he came Malaysia in 2013. But after coming over here he could not meet Quat. Part time job is far away matter, he added.

Bangladeshi students now reading in Malaysia advised that the intenders should select good institutions after visiting the web sites and to apply their through on line.
