BRAHMANBARIA: A person died and several others remain missing when a trawler sank in the Meghna River near the Ashuganj launch terminal on Sunday morning.
Barek Mia, a passenger of the sunken trawler, said the Ashtogram-bound trawler tilted sideways and capsized near the Ashuganj launch terminal 7:30am when 10 to 12 passengers attempted to get into it.
But most of passengers on board managed to swim ashore.
Later, the body of an unidentified youth was recovered and an elderly man was rescued around 10:30am from the spot.
Brahmabaria Fire service and civil defense deputy-assistant director Mojibur Rahman Chowdhury told banglanews that Upazila Administration, police, Fire service divers, and people concerned are looking for those missing.
Salvage ship Agni Toroni joined the rescues operation, he added.
