FBI giving police technical support

DHAKA: Visiting US anti-criminal agency Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) team is providing technical assistance to the Detective Branch (DB) of Bangladesh Police over writer and blogger Avijit killing.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia made the disclosure to the media in a briefing held at his office on Saturday noon.

He said the slain writer Avijit was a citizen of both Bangladesh and the USA. So, they are investigating the incident.

Welcoming the FBI initiative, the DMP commissioner said, “We have some lacking in technical side. For that reason, they (FBI) are providing us (Bangladesh Police) technical support in investigating the murder case”.

On the development of the investigation, Asaduzzaman commented, “We have made a commendable progress over the incident. We have already detained the person who gave him murder threat through Facebook”.

According to him, law enforcers are trying to identify the criminals.

However, a 4-member FBI team reached Dhaka on Wednesday night to investigate the killing of Avijit Roy who was hacked to death and his wife Rafida Ahmed Bonya severly injured at the night of February 26 at city’s TSC intersection.
