LAKSHMIPUR: A local leader of Juba League, youth wing of ruling Awami League, was shot by miscreants to death at Mirikpur Bazaar under sadar upazila of the district early Wednesday.
The deceased was identified as Arifur Rahman Farhad, 35, joint convener of Bhanga Khan Union unit Juba League and son of Nurul Amin Master of Mirikpur village.
Deceased’s father said Farhad returned home after joining disrict Awami League council held on Tuesday. Someone called him out around 3:00am. Later police spotted his bullet-hit body in the area this morning and informed family members.
Junayet Kawser, Assistant Superintendent of Police of Lakshmipur (Sadar), told banglanews said on information, police rushed to the spot and sent the bullet-hit body to Sadar Hospital morgue at 8:00am. Investigation is going on and drive is underway to nab the killers.
Victim’s father added: Earlier in August last year, Farhad received knife injuries by his party men over an intra-party dispute. Police recently arrested M Rashed in the attempt to murder case.
So, Farhad might have been killed following the arrest, his father said.
M Nasim Mia, Assistant Police Super (circle), and Iqbal Hossain, Officer-in-Charge of Sadar Thana, visited the spot.
