DHAKA: The draft of the International Crimes Tribunal Act 1973 (amend) with necessary changes to try an organization for war crimes would be placed before the cabinet meeting on March 9.
Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Advocate Anisul Haque said it while taking to reporters after a meeting with James Stewart, Deputy Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court at secretariat on Sunday.
Mentioning that draft of the law to try an organization for war crimes is now in the cabinet division, he said, “The proposed changes would be placed at cabinet meeting of March 9 in stead of the meeting to be held on March 2.”
Regarding the issues discussed at the meeting, the minister said trial of suspected war criminals was discussed with James Stewart. We talked about the wrongdoing of those who are facing trial for their alleged involvement in crimes against humanity during liberation war.
When asked the timeframe of bringing the five fugitive convicted war criminals back to bar, the minister said they would be brought back to home soon.
Five convicted war criminal out of 18 remain fugitive. The government has already started the process to bring them back to home. Of them, Abul Kalam Azad alias Bachchu Razaker could not be located.
