DHAKA: The United States condemned the murder of Avijit Roy, a Bangladeshi origin American blogger, and offered assistance in the investigation.
"The United States condemns in the strongest terms the brutal murder of Avijit Roy," said Jen Psaki, Spokesperson of US Department of State, at daily press briefing in Washington DC on February 27.
"He was taken from us in a shocking act of violence," she added.
She also extended condolences to family members and friends of Avijit, a journalist and humanist.
Jen Psaki said, “This was not just an attack against a person, but a cowardly assault on the universal principles enshrined in Bangladesh's constitution and the country's proud tradition of free intellectual and religious discourse.”
She also offered consular assistance as is appropriate and informed their readiness to assist in the investigation if asked.
On Thursday night, Avijit Roy was hacked to death by assailants in front of TSC on Dhaka University campus.
