DHAKA: The charred body of minor boy was recovered inside a shanty after a devastating fire broke out at a slum, nearby Islamic Foundation building, in city’s Agargaon area on Wednesday.

The deceased was identified as Sajib, 4, son of Tuhin Sheikh, hailed from Gopalganj.

Slum residents claimed that two people also sustained burn injuries and about 300 shanties were burnt to ashes.

The fire originated at a shanty around 11:25am, said Rafiqul Islam, additional director of Fire Service and Civil Defense (FSCD).

On information, 10 fire fighting units rushed to the spot and brought the flame under control after an hour of hectic efforts, he added.

Earlier, FSCD control room Officer-In-Charge (OC) Enayet Hossain confirmed the fire incident to banglanews.

Two fire fighting units from FSCD Headquarters and Tejgaon Station each and three units from Mirpur and Mohammadpur stations each carried out the operation, according to the OC.

Damage caused by the fire could not be estimated immediately.
