Man gets life in Netrokona murder case

NETROKONA: A Netrokona court on Monday awarded life-time imprisonment to a man in a murder case in the district.

The convict is Hedayet Ullah, son of late Shohrab of Gatipara village in Atpara upazila of the district.

Additional District and Session Judge Abdul Hamid handed down the order around 11:30am.

The court also fined him Tk 50,000. In default, the convict has to serve five years more rigorous imprisonment.

The court sources said on December 15, 2004, Hedayet killed Ambia Khatun, resident of capital’s Agargaon area in a dispute over returning money given for visa.

On December 16, police recovered the body of Ambia at Bhasapara village in Sadar upazila of Lakshmipur district.

After the autopsy of the body, residential Medical Officer Rafiqul Islam of Netrokona Sadar Hospital filed a case in this connection.

Police submitted the charge sheet against the accused on July 16, 2005.

Additional Public Prosecutor (PP) Saiful Alam Pradip moved for the plaintiff while Mahbub Alam Bhuiyan Khasru stood for defendant.

Additional PP Saiful Alam confirmed the matter.
