Mozena finishes `64-dist tour mission’

Dhaka: For the first time, a foreign ambassador to Bangladesh finished visiting all 64 districts of the country.

None but the well known US ambassador to Bangladesh Dan W Mozena completed the noteworthy tour mission in a bid to make the history and culture of Bangladesh familiar to the US people.

Dan Mozena started visiting different districts of Bangladesh from the beginning of his appointment as an ambassador.

On September 23, he started the last part and visited Comilla, Noakhalli, Chandpur and Laxmipur. On September 26, Mozena visited Feni as the last district of his mission.

During the mission, he met local authorities and visited different important sites, made himself familiar with the people of Bangladesh and enjoyed local culture.

He was engulfed by the beauty of sea, hills, rivers, forests and all the natural resources of the country.

Mozena, at Feni, said he would make an effort to make the history and culture of Bangladesh familiar to Americans.

And that is why he visited all the districts of Bangladesh, he added.

He traveled five districts of Greater Faridpur in August and Kishorganj-Netrokona and greater Jessore in May, this year.

Mozena discussed about educational status, economic and political situation, and the improvement of information technology with local authorities, political figures and other important persons during his visit. He praised the current improvement of Bangladesh in different fields.

He claimed that the younger generation will lead this country and make it a prosperous one in the near future.

Several of his oft-quoted sentences are -- “Bangladesh will be a Middle-income country in the near future”, “Tigers will roar again”, “Bangladesh is an epitome of communal harmony” etc.

His wife Grace Mozena, USAID mission director to Bangladesh Janina Jaruzelski and other high ups of US embassy were present here.

Dan Mozena will return to his country in October after 3 years of service as an ambassador.

African ancestry Marcia Stephens Bloom Bernicat will succeed incumbent Ambassador Dan W Mozena in Bangladesh.
