Hasina co-chair at UN Peace conference

SSFROM UN HEADQUARTERS: Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina along with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, Prime minister of Rwanda Anastase Murekezi and US vice-president Joe Biden will co-chair the UN Peace Conference on Friday.

Heads of government and countries, peace affairs specialists and noted persons will participate in the Conference that will be held at the conference room of UNHQ from 10:25am to 12:25pm.

Bangladesh State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shahriar Alam told banglanews that the Peace Conference is very important as well as prestigious to the country.

As a co-chair of the Conference, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will underscore the pledges of Bangladesh to maintain world peace.

Finance Minister AMA Muhith, PM’s Political Affairs Advisor HT Iman, Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali, State Minister for Foreign Minister Shahriar Alam, Bangladesh Ambassador to US M Ziauddin, PM’s principal secretary Abdus Sobhan Sikder, Permanent Representative of Bangladesh to UN Dr AK Abdul Momen, Chairperson to Parliamentary Standing Committee on Foreign Ministry Dr Dipu Moni and Director-General of Ministry of Foreign Affairs Saida Muna Tasneem will join the program.

The premier, in the afternoon, will participate in a ceremony to celebrate 40th anniversary of Bangladesh’s membership of UN where UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon will participate as chief guest.

Permanent Representative of Bangladesh to UN has organized the program at conference hall-3 of UNHQ from 3:30pm to 4:30pm.

Representatives from UK, Russia and India along with UNDP Administrator Helen Clark, UN Under Secretary General for the Department of Field Support Ameerah Haq and UNESCO Director Irina Bokova also will participate in the celebration party.

Later, Sheikh Hasina will address a press conference at Permanent Representative of Bangladesh to UN at 5:00pm.
