“BD-India rail link to be restored”

DHAKA: Railway Minister Mujibul Haque categorically said that

Bangladesh would restore the abandoned railway connectivity, existed before the partition of India, to boost trade and relation between people of two countries.

The Minister came up with the assertion while talking to journalists after joining a program at Agartala in Tripura on Thursday.

Mujibul Haque, “After the partition of India in 1947, many railway connectivity between the two neighbours had snapped. We are considering restoring most of those deserted railway linkages”.

He also said, "With the help of Indian investment, preliminary works have been started to lay a 15-km railway track to link Tripura's capital Agartala with Bangladesh's (southeastern city) Akhaura”.

The project would be operational at the earliest as the two countries are very serious to execute the plan, he added.
