DHAKA: The Islamist militant outfits once again become active across the country following the snatching incidence of several militants at Trishal in Mymensingh and the recent speech of Al-Qaeda head Ayman al-Zawahiri.

Besides, they themselves are gathering their members in online and collecting ‘yananat’ (contribution) from them. 

Especially, they began campaign by opening Facebook’s fan page to join in the so called ‘jihad’ in Syria and Iraq.

The shocking information was disclosed at a press conference following the detention of self-proclaimed ISIS Bangladesh chapter leader Zohirul Islam.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Detective Branch joint-commissioner Monirul Islam made the discourse to the journalists at the brief, which was held at the DMP Media Centre on the city’s Minto Road at 12:00pm.

DMP Deputy Commissioner (media) Masudur Rahman, DB additional deputy-commissioner Sanwar Hossain, among others, were present there.

Monir said that they had no information whether any people from Bangladeshi have directly gone to Syria and Iraq to join ‘jihad’ there. But they have data that Bangladeshi–origin British citizens are joining the fight, he added.

The intelligence boss said militants trying to gather themselves following the militants’ snatching incidence at Trishal and Al-Qaeda chief’s recent announcement to open branch in sub-continent. They also plane to carry out attack to attract their attention, he added.

DB drove operations after receiving such information and have nabbing them on after the other.  

Earlier DB held M Hafizur Rahman, an alleged member of Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS), in Purana Paltan area of the city on Thursday night.

Hafizur is a student of Government Tibbia College of Sylhet has good capability on internet. Once he was a member of banned outfit Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen.

He opened the ‘ISIS Bangladesh’ fan page on Facebook and claimed himself as the head of ISIS Bangladesh chapter. He was inspiring others to join the ‘jihad’ in Syria and Iraq.
