Felani’s father cancels India visit

DHAKA: Bangladesh delegation, including Felani Khatun’s father, cancelled their India visit on Friday as a special Indian court adjourned the trial procedure of Felani killing verdict review for three days.

Earlier, review of the verdict on Felani killing began on Monday at a special court in India’s Cooch Behar district.

A Bangladeshi delegation comprising Felani’s father, Nur Islam, in this regard, was supposed to go there for testifying on the day.

Sources said that, the delegation, which started the journey in the morning towards to India, had come to know that the court adjourned the hearing for three days.

After getting the message, the delegation, however, followed the way back, sources added.

Confirming the matter to banglanews, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) battalion 45 in Kurigram commanding officer (CO) lieutenant colonel Mofazzal Hossain Akand, also another member of the delegation said that Felani’s father was supposed to testify the case on the day as a witness of the incident.

However, public prosecutor Abraham Linkon is one more member of the Bangladesh delegation.

Earlier on September 6, 2013, a special court set up by India's Border Security Force has found its troops accused of killing Bangladeshi girl Felani Khatun not guilty of the killing.

On Jan 7, 2011, 15-year-old Felani was shot dead by a trooper of BSF’ while trying to cross the barbed-wire fencing at Kurigram border on her way back to Bangladesh.
