DHAKA: Customs officials detained a man with 27 gold bars, weighing 3.1 kilogram, at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the city on Wednesday morning.

The detainee was identified as Tarek Hossain, 24, who was hailed from Hathazari upazila of Chittagong district.

Sources of the Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate said, Tarek arrived at the airport by Emirates’ EK-582 flight of Dubai in the morning.

Customs officials searched a white-colored Whirlpool brands’ oven, carrying by the man, on suspicion, found the gold and nabbed him.

A case was filed with the Airport Thana in this connection.
