FROM UN MEDIA CENTRE, NEW YORK: United Nations secretary general Ban Ki-moon called for a comprehensive climate deal by 2015.

World leaders are holding a summit on climate change at the United Nations.

The New York meeting aims to galvanise the UN member states to sign up to a comprehensive new global climate agreement at talks in Paris next year.

In the ongoing meeting, the leaders are upholding their respective initiatives to face the climate change as well as expressing their ideas on future steps.

Besides, the head of the states or governments, a large group of businesspeople and members of civil society are also attending the UN programs in New York.

UN secretary general Ban Ki-moon asked the leaders to take concrete measures in fighting the ongoing global climate change.

Ban, showing his expectation, said the up-coming agreement should reduce greenhouse gas emission and enhance the ability of fighting the challenges of climate change.

He also hoped that political willingness will be shown in signing a comprehensive climate deal in 2015.

Terming the meeting a great opportunity for the world leaders Ban further said that through this meeting they will be able to establish them as the champions.
